The bar chart gives information on the percentage of energy from renewable sources in four different countries over three consecutive years: 2000, 2004 and 2007.
Overall the share of energy use showed an upward trend over the period of years. The figure for Norway and Iceland increased noticeably, with the former showing considerably higher figures. In contrast, Germany and Australia recorded much lower proportions of renewable energy use than other countries.
Focusing on the highest usage first, Norway began with 62% of its energy coming from renewable sources in 2000. This figure increased slightly to 65% in 2004 before experiencing a significant rise to 79% in 2007, making the country with the highest proportion throughout the period. In Iceland energy supply started with 51% in 2000, despite increasing considerably in 2004, which formed higher figures, total energy generated from renewables dropped marginally in the final year.
The lowest proportion was true for Australia, which showed 6% in 2000. After climbing negligibly to 10% in 2004, the percentage of energy supply declined slightly to 9% in 2007. Meanwhile, Germany showed a steadily upward trend. The percentage of energy from renewables: 11% in 2000, and rose to 15% in 2004, then increased significantly to 18% in 2007.
