The bar chart compares sales of four types of virtual games around the world from the period of 2000 to 2006.
Overall, it can be seen that consumers have spent the highest amount on handheld games throughout the period. It is noteworthy that while the sales of console games have decreased significantly, figures for mobile phones and online games have soared.
In 2002, only the console and handheld games first appeared. The handheld games had sales of nearly $12 billion, double that of the console games. After 6 years, the bigger gap proved the contrast in sales between the two types of games. While the sales of handheld games increased sharply by the end of the period to less than $18 billion, six times higher than console games, which dropped significantly.
The two games appear later, online and mobile games, although both are introduced to have the lowest sales when they start selling. Even so, from 2001 to 2006, it can be observed that the trading of both types increased, and they had similar sales most of the time. However, only in 2006, the sales of online games were higher than those of mobile games, with approximately $2 billion.
