Overall, it is evident from the chart that male staff made up the largest share in Engineering, while History demonstrated the highest representation of female academic staff.
As regards male staff Engineering faculty had the most percentages of men, accounting for almost 90%. Similarly, Astronomy and Science demonstrated a male majority, with males constituted around 65% of academic staff in Astronomy and 65% in Science. In Law the proportion of male teachers constituted approximately 60%, which was only 5% lower than Astronomy and Science. As for Medicine, the percentage of men working on this faculty was around 45%. Finally, Arts and History were reported as the faculties with the lowest proportion of male, accounting for 43% and 30%, respectively.
In contrast, the majority of History teachers were women, with 70% of the staff. The runner-up to History was Arts, constituting around 57% of teachers being women. The percentage of women in the Faculty of Medicine was about the same as the percentage of men – around 55%. In terms of Law, 40% of the faculty members were women, while Astronomy and Science women accounted for about 35% and 35% respectively. The lowest number of females were employed in Engineering, comprising only 10%.
