The pie charta compare the proportions of visitors to the United States from Canada, Mexico, China and other countries in 1988,1990 and 1992.
Overall, Canada remained the largest source of visitors throughout the period, although its share declined steadily. In contrast, the proportion of Chinese tourists rose considerably, while the percentage of visitors from other countries fell sharply. Mexico experienced only minor fluctuations.
In 1988, Canada accounted for the largest share of visitors, at 53%, more than double the figure for Mexico(25%). China represented only 10%, whereas the remaining 12% came from other countries.
By 1990, the proportion of Canadian visitors had fallen significantly to 43%. Mexico also experienced a slight decline, dropping to 20%. Conversely, the percentage of tourists from China increased dramatically to 28%, making it the second-largest source of visitors. Meanwhile, the share of other countries decreased modestly to 9%.
The trend continued in 1992. Canada’s contrubution declined futher to 40%, although it still remained the dominant source of visitors. The figure for Mexico recovered slightly to 26%, while China reached 30%, narrowing the gap with Canada. In contrast, visitors from other courtries fell markedly to just 4%, the lowest proportion recorded during the period.
