Overall, it is obvious that the most common household in both measured years was 2-person households, while 6-person households were the least common. In addition, the proportion od 1-person and 2-person households increased, the percentage of other household sizes decreased.
Regarding in 1981, 2-person wa the most popular British’s citizens lived jointly at 31%, followed by 3-person at 20%. Futhermore, 4-person and 1-person households made up similar percentages, at 17% and 18% respectively, whereas 5-person and 6-person households only made up 8% and 6% of the total.
Turning to 2001, the number families with 2 people rose by 3% compared to 1981 and this remained the largest share in the UK. The percentage of 1-member households increased the most considerablely, by 26% , while that of 3-people and 4-people groups had seen a downward trend of 3%. Finally, the rate of five people households decreased from 8% to 6%, and that of 6 people group was less popular, with a figure of 2%.
