It is also evident that the level of no-car households was the highest from 1951 to 1975, while that of one-car households accounted for the largest share from 1975 to 2007. The proportion of households possessing three or more cars was the lowest throughout the 56-year period.
In respect of no-car households, the percentage for that kind of households started at 85% in 1951 before plunging to 50% in 1967, after which it decreased slower throughout the years before finishing at approximately 22% in 2007.
Considering the proportion of one-car households, after starting at about 12% in 1951, this figure soared to roughly 40% in 1967 before remaining relatively stable afterwards.
Regarding two-car households and three-or-more-car households, after starting at 2% and 0% respectively, the figures for these types of households increased steadily. In 2007, the percentage of the former household type finished at around 28%, while that of the latter ended at only 8%.
