Sodium, saturated fat and added sugar are three components which might have a detrimental effect on people’s health. Overall, dinners and lunch comprise a high percentage of sodium and saturated fat whereas added sugar is more preferable in snacks.

There are similarities and differences in consumption of these components. As for similarities, sodium, saturated fat and added sugar have approximately the same percentage in breakfasts, 14%, 16%, 16% respectively. The intake of sodium and saturated fat is the same in lunches, 26 per cent while the percentage of added sugar is slightly lower, 19%. Dinners containing saturated fat are almost as high as the ones containing sodium. The former is 43% whereas the latter is 37%. On the other hand, snacks have the biggest proportion of added sugar in comparison to the rest of the meals, 43%.

In conclusion, it is clear that the consumption of three nutrients is quite high in America, especially consumption of added sugar during snacks.
