The chart gives information regarding the changes in possession of electrical appliances and period of time spent doing housework in each households in one nation between the year 1920 and 2019.
Overall, electrical appliances in households in one nation experiences upward trend throughout the whole period with an exception of the refrigerator. Meanwhile, the number of hours spent on houseworks per week declined over a whole period of time.
In detail, starting with washing machine which was at around 3 percent in 1920 then, it rose to almost 55 percent in 1940 and continue to increase and reached to 100 percent in 1980 and stayed same throughout the period of time. In 1920, the vacuum cleaner was at 30 percent and rose steadily to 90 percent in 1980 and reached a peak point of 100 percent in year 2000 became stable throughout the period. Meanwhile, refrigerator was 40 percent being higher than washing machine and vacuum cleaner in 1990 then, rose to 70 percent in 1960 before dropping slightly to about 64 percent in 1980. However, the percentage slightly improve and slightly increasing to almost 75 percent at the end of the period in 2019.
On the other hand, in 1920, the amount of time spent in housework in each households was at 50 percent which starts to decline for the next forty years reaching 20 percent in 1960 and continue to drop steadily to the end of the period reaching around 15 percent in 2000 and hitting a low point of about 11 percent in the final year.
