The pie charts give information about the proportion of spending on five different categories of an average home in America and New Zealand in the years 1980 and 2008
It can be clearly seen that expenditure on food and drink decreased in both countries, while there was a slight growth in the percentage of spending on utility bills over a 28-year period. Additionally, the figure for leisure witnessed the most significant rise in the household budget in the UK double that of New Zealand.
In 1980, transport accounted for 15% of America’s and 17% of New Zealand of the household budget, which was followed by a slight drop of 14% and 16% respectively. Moreover, the figures for food and drink fell by 10% in America and around 4% in New Zealand.
Over a period of 28 years, expenditure on leisure made up the highest percentage in the US with 27% in 1980 and 34% in 2008 of the household budget, but only the third highest proportion in New Zealand. In 1980, 26% of the household expenses went on utility bills in America, and that of New Zealand was 27% before witnessing modest increases in the next 28 years to 28% and 31%, respectively.
