Overall, Adult Fiction, Adult Non-Fiction, Children’s Books and Top Audio-Visual Materials followed similar downward patterns. The biggest change was shown by Children’s Books during the whole period.
Focusing on the higher borrowing trends first, this were true for Children’s books and Top Audio-Visual Materials. The figure for Children’s books accounted for 1113 millions in 1995. Before falling noticeably to 110 million between in 2005, the number of Children’s books had decreased dramatically from 1113 to 161 million between 1995 and 2000. There was a dramatic decline from 330 to 230 million in the figure of Top Audio-Visual Materials between 1995 and 2005.
By contrast, Adult Non-Fiction and Adult Fiction were experienced lower patterns during the whole period. Starting at 107 million, the number of Adult Non-Fiction reduced minimally to 104 million between 1995 and 2005. After falling slightly from 98 to 93 millions between 1995 and 2000, the figure for Adult Fiction dropped dramatically to 60 in 2005.
