The bar chart provides a breakdown of the attendance rate of Australian students in four activities after school in the year 2010.
Overall, it is evident that football was dominated by male students, while netball and swimming were the most prevalent sports among female students. In addition, basketball and no sports were witnessed as having slight differences in the number of attendants for both genders.
Looking at the bar chart in more detail, the proportion of male pupils joining in football was 20% – the highest participation rate among boys. At the same time, the participation rate in swimming was around 13%, followed by 8% in basketball. In contrast, male students were less likely to participate in non-sport and netball activities after school compared to other types of extracurricular activities. The figures for no sports and basketball were significantly lower, at 4% and 2%, respectively.
Turning to the remaining data, although the figures for netball and swimming were almost equal, at 18% each, netball remained the more favored after-school activity among female students. Meanwhile, the share of girls school pupils engaging in basketball was nearly 7%, compared to 5% of no sports. Football ranked fourth, with 4% of girls attending.
