Overall, while there were downward trends in the average time commuters spent traveling to work each day in Sydney, and Brisbane, the opposite was true for that in Perth. Meanwhile, the figure for Adelaide fluctuated during the period. In addition, Sydney had the highest figure over 5 years.
Looking first at Sydney and Brisbane, the average daily commute time of workers in Sydney was 35 minutes in 2002, which was higher than that in Brisbane, at about 27 minutes. After that, the figure for Sydney experienced a rise to nearly 39 minutes in 2008, before ending the period at approximately 37 minutes. In a similar vein, the figure for Brisbane increased significantly to around 36 minutes in 2008, and then a final drop to nearly 34 minutes in the final year.
Turning to the remaining nations, roughly 26 minutes were spent by commuters in Perth in 2002, then it remained unchanged at the same level until 2008, followed by a considerable growth to nearly 34 minutes in 2010. In contrast, the figure for Adelaide was approximately 24 minutes in 2002, with a subsequent growth to around 28 minutes in 2006, before falling to its initial figure at the end of the period.
