The following bar chart illustrates the percentage of Australian males and females who obtained a post-school degree (skilled vocational diploma, undergraduate diploma, bachelor’s degree, postgraduate diploma, and master’s degree) in 1999.
Overall, while the graduation rate was the highest for undergraduate diplomas among women, most male graduates held a skilled vocational diploma that year. Regarding the least gained degree, skilled vocational diplomas can be considered the least obtained for women, and undergraduate diplomas for men, respectively.
Among women, the second most obtained post-school qualification was the bachelor’s degree (about 55%) right after the undergraduate diploma, which just about 70% of women managed to achieve. It is also evident that only 10% of skilled vocational diplomas were awarded to female students. Furthermore, the proportion of females who received a postgraduate diploma was almost three-quarters of the proportion who held a master’s degree, 30% and 40%, respectively.
Meanwhile, 90% of skilled vocational diplomas and 70% of postgraduate diplomas were gained by men, and approximately 35%, 45%, and 60% of bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s degrees, respectively, were received by male students.
