The bar chart illustrates the percentages of Canadian teenage boys and girls who chose four leisure activities – sports, computer games, music and shopping – as their favourites.
Overall, boys showed the greatest interest in sports, whereas girls overwhelmingly preferred shopping. Meanwhile, music was the only activity equally popular among both genders, while computer games showed a clear gender gap.
In terms of boys’ preferences, sports ranked first at 30%, followed by computer games at 25%. Music was selected by one-fifth of boys, while shopping was the least preferred activity, at only 5%. This indicates that boys were more inclined toward physically active or technology-based pastimes.
Conversely, girls’ choices were notably different. Shopping dominated their preferences at 35%, more than double the figure for boys. Music came second at 20%, identical to boys. Sports and computer games were less popular among girls, at 15% each. This highlights a contrast between genders, with girls favouring social and creative activities, while boys preferred competitive and digital ones.
