The chart compares the number of various means of transport which were registered in Europe in two years, namely 1996 and 2006.
There was an upward trend in the number of registered private cars and other types, while the opposite was true for lorries and motorcycles. The figure for bus, coach and taxi remained stable. In addition, the private cars had the highest number in both years.
In 1996, 19 million private cars were registered by residents, followed by a significant increase by 5 million, which corresponds to 26,32% of change. and it still was the highest figure. While the number of other types of transport registered was much lower in 1996, at 1,5 million, after which witnessed a slight growth to 2 million and had the highest percentage of increase change, at 58,33% . The figure for public transport stayed stable at the level of 1 million over the next 10 years.
In 1996, the number of motorcycles registered was at 1 million, which was half as high as that of lorries. Over the next ten years, similar changes can be seen in the figure for both means of transport, which decreased to 0,6 and 0,4 million respectively, while the proportion of fall change was at 40% and 20%.
