The bar chart illustrates the number of vehicles in use, broken down by five categories, in 2006, compared to that in 1996.
Overall, while the registrations for motorcycles and lorries saw a reduction, those for private cars and all other modes of transportation experienced a net increase—notably, buses, coaches, and taxis diverted from this erratic trend, remaining unchanged.
Regarding private cars, which dominated the chart in both two years, the number of cars registered in 1996 was 19 million and then surged to 24 million after 10 years, representing a 26,32% growth.
In contrast, the figures for motorcycles, lorries, buses, coaches, and taxis were significantly lower, hovering around 1 million. Specifically, motorcycles’ figures dropped from 1 million to 0,6 million, underdoing the most pronounced decline. Lorries, likewise, exhibited a slighter decrease, falling from 0,5 million to 0,4 million. Meanwhile, the number of buses, coaches, and taxis remained stable at 0,1 million, the smallest figure on the chart.
The number of other modes of transportation in use went through a steep increase of nearly 60%, but they still recorded a relatively insignificant figure, at 1.9 million.
