Looking at the details, Japan and the USA showed rising trends, in which the former started at about 7,000 applicants in 2004, and then there was a slight increase to 9,000 in the number of applicants in Japan until 2008. As for the USA, figures started at 13,000 in 2004, and the next three years this number rose slowly to 17,000. Until 2008, there was a sharp growth of approximately 13,000 in the number of applicants to universities of one European countries.
The remaining countries, China and Russia, on the other hand, one of them went in the opposite direction, and another one remained stable. The China’s stats decreased significantly from 27,000 to 17,000 in the first three years. At this point, the figures remained at 17,000 in 2007. In the last year, there was a slight dip to 15,000 in the number of applicants from China. Regarding to Russia, the proportion of Russian applicants started with 3,000 in 2004, and this followed by a small decline to 2,000 in 2005. Subsequently, figures witnessed a slow rise to the starting point at 3,000 until 2008.
