The chart illustrates the number of international students in Australia graduating from different types of educational programs from 2018 to 2020. In the chart, there are 5 types of programmes given, like Higher Education, VET, ELICOS, Schools, and Non-award. Higher programs that have lots of graduates are Higher Education and VET. Generally, the lowest programs are Non-award programmes and Schools. In the middle of this chart we can see ELICOS, which had a moderate and stable number of graduates for a while.
Until the last year, Higher Education was the biggest program in Australia. In 2019, when Higher Education had a lot of graduates, the number of students increased to 175 thousand, but the next year the number decreased to 130 thousand. The only program which was not decreased was VET. Until 2020, VET increased to 170 thousand graduates. The next year, VET saved the number of graduates and stayed with 170 thousand students, showing strong and consistent growth over time.
The third biggest educational program was ELICOS. Until the last year, the number of students graduating from ELICOS was always approximately 120 thousand. But in the last year, this indicator decreased to only 60 thousand. The last two were Schools and Non-award programs. Non-award programs had 30 thousand graduates at the beginning and decreased to 20 thousand. Schools lost approximately 5 thousand students. At the beginning, in Schools, graduated 10 thousand, which was a relatively small number compared to other categories.
In conclusion, all programs clearly have different numbers of graduates in different years. In 2020, all programs stopped increasing, and some of the programs started decreasing the number of graduates significantly due to various factors, such as policy changes, global restrictions, economic uncertainty, and reduced student mobility.
