The bar chart illustrates the amount of men and women in further study in Britain in three periods and assumptions that they were studying full-time or part-time. Looking from an overall perspective, while male participation in part-time education declines, female students demonstrated significant growth in part-time and full-time learning.
Number of the men students who was taking part in the part-time education were 1 million in the 1970-71. Then, it decreased slightly to around 820 thousand in the next 10 years. However the figure showed gradual growth to about 850 thousand in the end of the period. Regarding full-time education the figure of male students enrolled was 100 thousand in the first year. This figure slightly increased over the last period reaching 200 thousand.
On the other hand, the whole female students in part-time education began at 700 thousand in 1970-71 and experienced total growth over the following 20 years, rising to 1,1 million by 1990-91. For a full-time education, female participation started at around 50 thousand, however by the end of the period it reached approximately 200 thousand students.
