The bar chart illustrates the proportion of children in Australia in four different activities, according to age, in the year 2018.
Overall, while computer games were more prevalent among those younger than 11, individuals aged from 12 to 16 were much more favoured physical activities such as riding bikes. Notably, people of all ages were most likely to participate in watching television, except for the oldest cohort, whose participation rate on riding bikes was slightly higher.
Regarding indoor activites, children aged 5 -6 were the most enthusiastic, with almost watching TV, at approximately 95% . Similarly, the remaining age brackets also showed high participation in this activity, yet marginally less, at around 80% each group. Furthermore, about 60% of individuals , who fell into youngest age cohorts, played games in computer while the interest decrease among the 12-16-year-old, with only roughly 40%. This indicates that as Australian children grow older, they tend to become less interested in computer games.
Concerning the remaining age categories, the proporition of people who read books did not change significantly accroos the three age groups, remaining relatively high from 65 to 70%. However, cycling experienced a different pattern. Oldest segment were the most fond of riding bikes, at about 82%. Moreover, other two age cohorts had similar participation percentages, around 65% for children aged 5-8 and 60% for those aged 9-11.
