The chart illustrates the percentage of female members of parliament in 5 European countries, such as Germany, Italy, France, UK, and Belgium, from 2002 to 2012. Overall, the UK had a steady growth throughout the period, while other countries remained stable. On the other hand, Belgium has become the only country that experienced a slight decline in the last year.
The UK began with below 5% of female members of parliament in 2000, and continuously growing over the next few years. In 2008, they had a steady growth from around 9% to 20% only in a year. The trend still had increases to the final year, with the total percentage was 23%. A similar number was experienced by Belgium in 2012, after they had a slight decline of around 1% from the previous year.
On the other hand, Italy, Germany, and France had experienced a stable growth over the period. It is worth highlighting that Italy had passed Germany in 2012. However, even though the UK had experienced the most significant growth over the year, they still cannot pass the percentage of female members of parliament in those three countries.
