Overall, it is clear from the graph that the highest amount of families how owned houses were in 1918. The opposite is true in 2001. furthermore, the percentage of families how rented a houses was peak in 2001. otherwise, in 1918 was the lowest amount.
In 1918, approximately 78% of households in ENGLAND and WALES were lived in a rented houses. while the remaining lived in thier own houses. The proportion of the renters dropped to just below 70% in 1939 and stayed there in 1953 before decreased dramaticlly to 50% in 1971. By contrast, the figure of the homeowners were doubled, rising to equal the renters , at 50% in 1971.
From 1971 upward, homeownership comtinued to rise, reaching a peak of close to 70% in 2001, before falling to about 65% by 2011. Renters followed a different pattern, with the figure declining gradually to just above 30% in 2001, followed a small rise of about 5 percentage points.
