The chart below demonstrates the percentage of internet users by age group in Canada who shopped online in 2014 and 2018.
Overall, it is clear that the share of online shoppers within each age group increased during the define time.
In 2014, roughly 20% of internet users aged 15-25 shopped online, but the number increased dramatically to nearly 32% for those aged 26-35, the highest figure for the year. Following then, the ratio subsequently decreased to approximately 28% for the 35-45 age range.
In 2018, internet purchasing began at 22% for the 15-25 age group and progressively increased, reaching at 38% for the 35-45 age group.
However, these percentages fell towards the end of the period, with the 55-65 and 65+ age groups participating the least in online purchasing in both 2014 and 2018.
