The chart illustrates the proportion of commuters using five different types of transport, namely cars, buses, bicycles, trains and walking, between 2010 and 2020.
Overall, car usage was the dominant mode of transport in both years, while walking was the least popular. Although the proportion of people travelling by car and on foot declined over the period, the use of bicycles, buses and trains increased.
Looking more closely at the figures, car travel accounted for the largest share in 2010, with 55% of commuters using this mode. This figure fell slightly to 50% in 2020. Bus usage ranked second, rising from 20% in 2010 to 25% in 2020. Similarly, the percentage of people commuting by train increased moderately, from 15% to 18%.
In contrast, cycling experienced a noticeable growth, climbing from 5% in 2010 to 10% in 2020. Walking, however, declined marginally, dropping from 5% to just 2% over the same period.
