Overall, the percentage of females proficient in second language in remaining countries is higher than that of their male counterparts, except in Thailand. India has the highest percentage of students having a good command for a second language, as opposed to the lowest figure in China.
Regarding the proportion of students proficient in a foreign language in Romania, India, and Vietnam, the figures for females in Romania and India are comparable, with being more or less than two-third. In India, the figure for males having a proficiency level in second language (56%) is significantly higher than that in Romania (42%), at merely 14%. In Vietnam, more than half of females having a command for a second language exceed that of males.
In terms of remaining countries, as for Russia, the gender gap is much less noticeable, with the males and females figures being 35% and 42% respectively. In China, the figure for females who are proficient in a second language (30%) is double that of male counterparts (15%). In other words, the proportion of males having a proficiency level in a second language in Thailand surpasses that figure for females, with a merely 3% gap.
