Overall, It took the largest amount of time in the day for employed adults to work. Meanwhile, there were big changes in the percentages of time for the remaining activities over the period of fifty years.
Regarding 1958, it is remarked to notice that working took up the most overwhelming majority with 33%, followed by just under one-third of the day sleeping. The third biggest number, 19%, was for time spent on going out with friends and family. In contrast, time for commuting to work accounted for the smallest portion, while the rest of the day was shared by relaxing at home and other recreational activities with 8% and 6% respectively.
After fifty years, the percentage of the day that adults spent on working considerably increased to 42%. Inversely, the figure for sleeping dropped at 25%. Also, less time was spent going out, decreasing to 6%, sharing the same number as hobbies and playing sport. Interestingly, the portion of time for traveling to work quadrupled and for relaxing at home rose by 5%, taking the third most time of someone’s day.
