The bar chart gives information about the percentage of people who expressed interest in six different sports in the UK in three different years: 1995, 2000 and 2005.
Overall, while interest in football, swimming and rugby showed an upward trend over the period, the opposite was true for snooker, tennis and golf. It is also notable that football remained the most popular sport for the respondents in the UK survey, whereas golf attracted the least interest.
Regarding the sports that attracted the highest proportion of respondents, football consistently ranked first across all three years, rising from about 42% in 1995 to approximately 45% in 2005. Swimming followed a similar trend, increasing from under 23% in 1995 to a peak of 29% in 2000, before declining slightly to around 28% by the end. Turning to rugby, this figure fell from roughly 24% to its lowest point of 18% in 2000, before rising again to about 25% in 2005.
As for the less popular sports, in 1995 30% of respondents expressed their interest in snooker, this figure then declined to approximately 21% in 2000 before recovering to around 24% in 2005. Tennis showed a similar pattern, declining from roughly 29% to just under 24%, before remaining constant until the end of the period. As for golf, it fell from just over 15% to about 13%, followed by a slight increase to roughly 14% in the end.
