The bar chart displays the amount of a single nation’s exports for different categories in 2015 and 2016, whereas the table compares the change in each export category between the two years.
Overall, export earnings in 2016 was higher than 2015 across all categories. Petroleum accounted for the largest share of income for both years. Also, the value for most categories increased from 2015 to 2016, except for gems and jewellery, which declined.
As shown in the chart, petroleum and engineering goods recorded the highest export earnings, around 60 billion, in 2015, rising slightly to just over 60 billion in 2016. Textiles, which recorded the lowest amount increased from below 30 billion in to just over it. In contrast, the value of gems and jewellery exports was higher in 2015 at over 40 billion but fell slightly in 2016.
In addition, four export categories experienced an increase in value from 2015 to 2016. Textiles had the highest rise of 15.24%, followed by engineered goods, petroleum products, and agricultural products, each rising 8.5%, 3%, and 0.81%, respectively. Finally, only gems and jewellery decreased by 5.18% in 2016.
