Overall, petroleum products remained the most valuable export category, whereas textiles had the lowest export values. Although most categories experienced growth, gems and jewellery was the only category to decline, while textiles recorded the largest percentage increase.
Petroleum products remained the leading export, rising from about $61 billion in 2015 to approximately $63 billion in 2016. Engineered goods ranked second, increasing from around $58 billion to $62 billion. By contrast, gems and jewellery was the only category to fall, declining from approximately $43 billion to $41 billion.
Agricultural products showed only a slight increase, rising from about $31 billion to $32 billion. Meanwhile, textiles remained the smallest export category despite growing from approximately $26 billion to $31 billion. The table also shows that textiles experienced the greatest percentage growth (15.24%), whereas agricultural products recorded the smallest increase (0.81%).
