The chart illustrates how many trips men and women made in a year in a European country and the purposes of those trips.
Overall, men made more trips than women for travelling to work and, for sports and entertainment, whereas women made more trips for shopping and visiting friends. In addition, day trips were the least common purpose for both genders.
Travelling to work was far more common among men, at about 330 trips per year, compared with roughly 210 for women. A similar pattern can be seen in sports and entertainment, where men also made slightly more trips than women, at around 140 and 120 respectively.
By contrast, women made considerably more shopping trips, with approximately 280 trips a year, while the figure for men was about 190. Women also travelled slightly more than men for visiting friends, at just over 200 trips, compared with around 200 for men. In addition, day trips were the least common purpose for both genders, with men making about 40 trips and women around 30.
