The given bar graph illustrates the proportion of women entering higher education in five countries between 1980 and 2015. Overall, it can be seen that the percentage of women going into higher education increased throughout the given period, with the exception of Australia. Moreover, the USA and Australia were the countries with the highest numbers of women entering higher education at the end of the period.
In terms of the two countries with the percentage of females going into higher education at the start, Australia and France stood at just below 60% and exactly at 50% respectively. Australia’s proportion remained steady in 2015. On the other hand, France experienced a slight increase to just above 50% in 2015.
As for the two countries with the third and fourth highest proportion of females entering higher education at the start, the USA started at just under 40%, while the UK began at around 35%. The USA witnessed a significant growth to just below 60%, which made it reach the same proportion as Australia at the end of the period. Similarly, the UK witnessed a drastic climb by around 20% to about 55% in 2015. Moreover, the country with the lowest proportion of females going to higher education at the start was South Korea, which began at around 15%. It then doubled from the first period, reaching 30% at the end of period. As a result, South Korea was the country with the smallest percentage of women enrolling in higher education over the years.
