The bar chart compares the total distance of people in the UK using five different means of transport namely Bicycle, Motorbike, Air, Bus and Rail in 1990 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the total distance traveled by modes of transport increased, except Bicycle and Motorbike. It is notable, the figure for Bus was the highest over the period.
In 1990, the total distance that passengers used Bus was the highest, at about 40 billion kilometers, followed by the second place of Rail standing at 35 billion kilometers. While the figure for Air was the lowest with around 2 billion kilometers. After 10 years, the passenger kilometers covered by Air, Bus and Rail increased, at 10 billion kilometers, 42 billion kilometers and 36 billion kilometers respectively.
On the other hand, the total distance that passengers used Motorbike stood at 5 billion kilometers in 1990. This number decreased to 2.5 billion kilometers in 2000. This trend was true for Bicycle, there was a significant decline from 2.5 billion kilometers in 1990 to around 1 billion kilometers in 2000. Finally, the total passenger kilometers increased from 100 billion to 112.5 billion kilometers in 2000.
