The bar graphs demonstrate the proportion of boys and girls from the 5-14 age set who participated in cultural activities and sports in Australia in 2003.
Overall, while girls were mostly engaged in such activities like drama, singing, and especially dancing, boys showed higher participation rates in playing musical instruments and sports. Moreover, playing sports was the most popular activity regardless of the gender.
Focusing on the activity in which girls represented much higher figure, 25% of them took part in dancing, while boys demonstrated considerably smaller proportion, with approximately 2%. There was, on the other hand, a similar pattern in the percentage of girls and boys attending drama and singing activities with a slight disparity, with around 5% for girls as opposed to boys who accounted for about 4%.
In contrast, 70% of boys were involved in sport activities, whereas only a half of the girls participated in the same activity. While 15% of boys played musical instruments, the figure was slightly less for their counterparts, with only 10%.
