Overall, Australia was the most preferred by British people, whereas the remaining destinations showed downward trends and minor fluctuations, except for France, which displayed the most noticeable change.
As is shown in the chart, the number of British emigrants who selected Australia was the highest between 2004 and 2007 and reached its highest record in 2006, which was over 50,000 people. In terms of Spain, the number of British people who moved to Spain declined slightly from 35,000 to 29,000.
Turning to the remaining countries, New Zealand and the USA were the two least preferred destinations. The figure for New Zealand decreased steadily, while the USA’s figure fluctuated slightly. In addition, France reached a peak in 2005 of over 30,000 and then dropped significantly to under 20,000.
