In 1990, the figure for Sao Paulo stood at about 17 million, significantly higher than the figure for Jakarta and Shanghai, which started at around 8 million and 12 million respectively. Then, the real number of people in Sao Paulo rose to around 24 million people, higher than its prediction by 2 million people approximately. Similar changes can be seen in the figure for Jakarta, which was predicted to be around 11 million in 2000, but the actual number was higher by approximately 2 million.
