The table illustrates the average number of miles traveled in various transportation types in the years 1985 and 2000. Overall, cars maintained the leading position in both years, whereas distance traveled by taxi is the lowest in 1985 and bicycle is the least used form of transport in 2000.
The collective total distance traveled by all modes has increased in 2000 when compared to 1985; as a result, the distance traveled by most individual transportation types has increased as well. In 1985, distance traveled by car was 3199 miles, which has increased to 4806 miles in 2000. Distance by train has also increased from 289 miles to 366 miles. In a similar way, taxis and long distance buses has covered distances of 13 and 54 miles in 1985, which increased to 42 and 124 miles, respectively, in 2000.
In contrast, the distance covered by some modes of transport has decreased. Distance covered walking has decreased from 255 miles in 1985 to 237 miles in 2000. Similarly, distances covered by bicycles and local buses has also decreased from 51 and 429 miles in 1985 to 41 and 274 miles in 2000.
