The bar chart illustrates the percentage of male and female teachers in six different types of educational setting in 2010. It can be seen that in nurseries and primary schools, woman outnumbered men by more than nine on one. However, in secondary schools, the number of female instructors dropped by nearly a half from more than 90 % to around 55 % and continuously decaying through higher level of education.
On the other hand, male teachers are very few compared to female in nurseries and primary schools. Nevertheless, the percentage of male teachers increased by more than four times in the secondary schools and experienced a small growth in colleges and private training institutes.
In conclusion, there is a different variety of teacher’s gender role in the UK. While the proportion of female teacher in nurseries and primary schools in the UK in 2010 is much higher than male, the difference is reduced in secondary schools, and colleges.
