The bar chart illustrates how long passengers travelled using five different means of transport in total in the UK within a decade, from 1990 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear while travelling by bicycles and motorbikes became less popular during the given period, the popularity of the remaining means of transport (planes, buses and trains) has noticeably risen. It is worth mentioning that though the biggest shift was seen in the journeys by air, the usage of buses dominated throughout the examined period.
To begin with, in 1990 the figure for bicycles, which was the lowest of all, was around 2 units and it decreased by more than halves in 2000. Similarly, motorbikes, which exceeded bicycles in 1990 with approximately 5 units, fell to about 3 units over the decade.
Conversely, travels by air experienced a significant increase, climbing from slightly less than 1 unit to roughly 5 units in 2000. A similar trend was observed in buses and rail travels; the figures for buses observed a slight rise from 40 units to some 42 units, which was higher than that of rail starting around 35 units and rose by some 2 units over the ten years.
