Overall, most customers in both countries favored overseas websites, either exclusively or in combination with local ones. The least popular option was shopping from local websites only. In terms of motivation, lower prices were the most common reason for online shopping, especially in Australia.
Looking at website preferences, a majority of Australians (64%) shopped exclusively from overseas websites, compared to 50% of New Zealanders. The proportion of customers who used both overseas and local websites was higher in New Zealand (36%) than in Australia (24%). Local-only shopping was the least common in both countries, with just 12% in Australia and 14% in New Zealand.
As for the reasons behind online shopping, affordability was the leading factor. In Australia, 59% of customers cited lower prices, while 51% did so in New Zealand. Interestingly, New Zealanders were more likely to value a larger range of choices (34%), whereas Australians prioritized convenience (23%). Other reasons were minimal, with only 2% of respondents in each country selecting options outside the listed categories.
