The people who visited public libraries in Britain were 290 million in both years. In 1991, 65% of visitors to British public libraries were for borrowing or returning books, followed by a drop to 55% over the next 9 years. The percentage of people who attended these places for information doubled during the period, reaching 20% in 2000.
Meanwhile, the figure for studying and reading newspaper/magazine reduced from 10% to 2% and from 15% to 5%, respectively. There was nobody who visited these destinations to borrow or return videos in 1991. However, the figure for this reason rose to 18% in 2000, becoming the third most prevalent reason.
