Meanwhile, the cases pf divorce were 1 million in the first year, which rose by roughly half a million in 1980; however, by the end of the period, it went down to the same level as it was in the first year.
The percentage of married adults was the highest in 1970, at around 70%. This figure declined by nearly 10% in 2000. The proportion of never married Amaricans rose from 15% to 20% between 1970 and 2000, respectively. There were more divorced people in 2000 compared to 1970, while the figures for widowed remained below 10% in both years.
