A similar trend can be observed in apartment rentals. Sydney again recorded the highest rental fees, increasing slightly from about $500 to $550. Darwin also saw a moderate increase, rising from $400 to $450 per week. Meanwhile, Hobart’s apartment rent went up from roughly $280 to $300. Perth was the only city where apartment rents decreased, falling from around $370 to $350 during the period.
In summary, rental prices for both houses and apartments increased in most cities between 2016 and 2017, with the exception of Perth, where renters benefited from lower costs. Sydney remained the most costly location to rent accommodation in both years.
