The bar chart compares the average lifespan in four different countries – Japan, Korea, the US, and Indonesia – in 2008, while the accompanying table shows the increase in life expectancy in these countries between 1996 and 2008. Overall, Japan had the highest rate for lifespan, closely followed by Korea, Indonesia was the lowest in the group. However, it had the highest rate of increase.
Looking first of all at life expectancy, Japan boasted the highest, at 82.7 years. This was followed by Korea at 79.2, making it slightly higher than the US, which was 77.2. Indonesia was the lowest with a moderate lifespan of 70.9 years.
Turning to the increase of life expectancy, Indonesia reported the highest growth rate, rising to 14.1 years throughout the given period. The lifespan in Korea increased dramatically as well by 9.3 years in 2008. The increase for Japan and the US witnessed a similar pattern, with their figure rising from 5.1 and 3.2 years within a period of 12 years.
