The pie charts shows the information about the most preferred means of transportation – namely cars, buses, bicycles, and walking – in the city of Cambridge over a 10 – year period, between 2008 and 2018. The measurements given in percentages.
Overall, it is clear that the dominance of cars decreased over the period, whereas the proportion of bicycles and walking increased significantly throughout the period. It is also worth noting that buses showed a slight decrease over the period.
Starting with the most popular option, cars accounted for 42% of total transport use in 2008, meanwhile the share of people traveling on foot was the least popular category and making up only 11% of overall transport usage. However, by 2018 the popularity of cars fell substantially to almost a fifth of the transport modes, whereas the percentage of people travelling on foot rose significantly to 25%.
Regarding other categories, the share of bus passengers in total transport usage was slightly less than a third in 2008, however, the proportion declined slightly to 25% by the end of the period. As for bicycles they showed a significant growth over the years, rising from 17% at the beginning of the period and increased to the 30% at the end, becoming the most popular means of transport among people.
