In Malaysia, housing accounts for the largest proportion of expenditure, at 34%, followed by food at 27% and other goods and services at 26%. In contrast, transport and health care make up the smallest shares, at only 10% and 3%, respectively. These figures are considerably lower than housing but remain higher than the two remaining categories.
