The pie charts illustrate the percentage of energy produced from different resources in 1985 and 2003.Overall,oil was the primary source of energy in both years, although it is percentage dropped.Meanwhile, the use of natural gas and coal grew significantly by 2003
In 1985, oil was the clear leader of energy production at 52%,which was more than all the other resources combined, but even though this figure dropped to 39% by 2003, oil still remained the most dominant source.Nuclear power followed a similar downward trend. At the beginning of the period, nuclear was the second most popular energy source at 22%, but by the end of the period, it fell sharply and more than halved, dropping to just 8%.
Looking at the resources that grew, natural gas and coal significantly went up.In the first year shown, natural gas was at 13%, whereas over the 18-year period, it climbed up by 10%.However, coal showed an even begger jump, fising from 8% to 22%, making it almost as popular as natural gas by the period. The only two groups that did not change much were hydro and other renewable, which stayed at the bottom of the chart during the whole period.
