The charts provide information about the activities of UK graduate and postgraduate students who did not engage in full-time work after leaving college in 2008. Overall, further study was the most popular choice for both groups, while voluntary work was the least common activity.
The number of graduates who took up part-time work was significantly higher than that of postgraduates, at 17,735 and 2,535, respectively. Similarly, 29,665 graduates pursued further study, which was approximately ten times the figure for postgraduates, at 2,725. Regarding unemployment, 16,235 graduates were jobless, representing around ten times the 1,625 unemployed postgraduates.
Voluntary work was the least preferred option for both groups. The number of graduates who participated in voluntary work stood at 3,500, while only 345 postgraduates engaged in this activity, a difference of nearly tenfold.
In summary, further study and part-time work were the most common activities for both graduates and postgraduates, whereas voluntary work remained the least chosen option.
