The bar charts illustrate the destinations of graduates and postgraduates in the United Kingdom who did not enter full-time employment in 2008.
Overall, the majority of both graduates and postgraduates were engaged in further study or part-time work, while voluntary work accounted for the smallest proportion in both groups. Unemployment remained a notable outcome, particularly among graduates.
Among graduates, further study was the most popular choice, with just under 30,000 individuals enrolling in postgraduate programmes. This was followed by part-time employment, which attracted approximately 17,700 graduates. By contrast, unemployment affected over 16,000 graduates, while voluntary work was the least common option, chosen by only about 3,500 individuals.
A similar pattern was observed among postgraduates. Further study again ranked first, with around 2,700 students opting for continued education. Part-time work was the second most common destination, accounting for roughly 2,500 individuals. Unemployment affected approximately 1,600 postgraduates, whereas voluntary work remained the least preferred choice, at just over 300 participants.
