The two pie charts illustrate how teenagers in a certain country allocated their free time across different activities in 2009 and 2019.
Overall, at the beginning of the period, listening to music was the most popular leisure activity, while walking was the least preferred. By contrast, by 2019, internet use had become the dominant form of entertainment, and walking remained the least chosen option.
In 2009, television accounted for 19% of teenagers’ leisure activities and saw a modest increase to 22% over the following decade. Meanwhile, internet use began at 12% and experienced a dramatic rise, reaching 38% in 2019, thereby becoming the most prevalent activity among adolescents.
The proportion of teenagers participating in sports dropped notably from 21% to 11%. Similarly, time spent on cooking and listening to music declined from 21% and 16% to 11% and 10%, respectively. Walking showed a slight decrease as well, falling from 8% to just 3%, making it consistently the least popular choice throughout the ten-year period.
