The three pie charts compare the average amount of three potentially unhealthy ingredients, namely, sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar, which are consumed by British adults at typical meal times of breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as snacks.
If we take the three additives in combination, it is clear that the highest consumption rates are at dinner and snack time, followed closely by lunch, while breakfast is the meal in which the lowest average proportion rates are revealed.
The lowest rates are at breakfast, where the figures for all three additives hardly vary, with both saturated fat and added sugar at 16% of their respective totals and sodium at three percentage points less.
However, added sugar displays a somewhat different pattern because snacks account for almost half of the total, and the other three additives make up the remainder in almost equal proportions, varying from breakfast at 16% to lunch at 20%.
